ZACH FINEBLUM
"The source of an actor's creativity is the object upon which they concentrate."
-Konstantin Stanislavski
The actor’s job is to behave truthfully with freedom and grace under imaginary circumstances, and to do this, actors must be deeply connected to their unobstructed impulses. Therefore, the primary aim of Zach's approach is to answer the question, “How do we become obedient to the impulses coming from our inner life?” There are many layers to this answer, but they are all united by an underlying focus on circumventing the mind and galvanizing the body, imagination, and will – those places where our impulses live and behavior is born. The work Zach does with students is built around exercises and the use of tools that attempt to bypass the mind and activate the actor’s physical and imaginative life so truthful, surprising behavior can emerge. His students learn to create behavior guided by instinctual responses, grounded within the world of the story and ignited by the other person/object on which their concentration is placed, that unfold freely and organically from unanticipated moment to unanticipated moment.
